DG Bonita's Insights
When you plant Lettuce, if it does not grow well, you don't blame the lettuce. You look for reasons it is not doing well. It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun. You never blame the lettuce. Yet, if we have problems with our friends or family, we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of them, they will grow well, like the lettuce. Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade using reason and argument, just understanding. If you understand, you show that you understand, you can love, and the situation will change. -Thich Nhat Hanh

1st Vice District Governor
It is hard to believe that we find ourselves 6 months into our Lions year. The role of the First Vice District Governor is to learn, plan and build.
So much goes into learning about the inner workings of our organization. It has been humbling to experience the willingness of our current and past leaders to share knowledge and impart wisdom. Learning what to and what not to do are both invaluable lessons and many have been learned over the last 180 days.
We have, and continue to plan for success even in the midst of pandemics and turmoil, for we know better days are just around the corner. Being prepared for adversity and challenges allow Lions to continue to provide service to so many in need.
As we plan, we build and building occupies a large segment of time. It takes a strong foundation to provide the framework that will serve so many. We build teams that will work effectively and efficiently with each other while respecting diverse points of view.
It is time for your clubs to start that process to plan and build for success. Today - not tomorrow. Soon your club will be nominating and electing officers. Be ready to serve. Soon you will be planning a new Lions year and deciding how your club can best serve your community. Pope Francis said it best - “Rivers do not drink their own water; trees do not eat their own fruit; the sun does not shine on itself and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature. We are all born to help each other. No matter how difficult it is...Life is good when you are happy; but much better when others are happy because of you.”
We call YOU to Serve! Serve your club, your District, your community and most of all, your passion. Your District leaders are here to help your clubs succeed and many times that success is a function of being properly prepared for the position to which you have been elected, appointed or assigned. District 2-S2 is committed to you and your clubs’ successfully building a strong foundation for the 2021-22 Lions year. Benjamin Franklin said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”. We are excited to announce that officer training will be delivered prior to your first day in office (July 1st). Watch your email for dates and times. We are committed to providing you the tools you will need, when you need them and in the medium that you are comfortable with. We will not fail due to lack of preparation.
Thank you and remember to be kind - be respectful - be compassionate. I know I can and I am confident that we will.

2nd Vice District Governor
The more I learn as Second Vice District Governor, the more I am trying to understand what I can do to serve the members of District 2-S2. It had not occurred to me that I will also be serving the members of MD2, Texas, as well. This weekend will be my third Council of Governors meeting. While not all of my council can attend, we will hold hybris sessions so that we can all continue on our path to learning. As I watch DG Bonita and First Vice District Governor Lisa work and prepare, I realize how truly blessed I am to learn from such fine leaders. It is hard to believe that our year is already half over!
As your Global Leadership Team District Coordinator, I am responsible for education and training. We will be scheduling Officer Training before July. This training will be for next year’s officers. We would really love for each and every incoming President, Secretary, and Treasurer to participate. Date, time, and place to be determined.
I would also like to provide a Lions Learning Day on the same date. This would be a series a of classes for all Lions. I would love for you to submit the name of any class you would like for us to include. I am serving to try and meet your needs. I am willing to work on any class that you want and that makes sense for District 2-S2.

The Lions Eye Bank of Texas has postponed the District 2-S2 Bowl-a-thon until June 5, 2021. This provides you 3 more months to decide to join us in the fun day!
Texas Lions Camp Update
HEY, HEY!.... HO, HO!...
Greetings from your Camp Directors! We have good news and bad news to share
First the bad news... The Bob Dowden dinner has been canceled. We felt that trying to hold it in March was too soon, and to try and push it further would be detrimental to the next BD in October. So our next BD will be next October, probably October 2nd.
Next the Good news! Construction work has started at the camp on the new bunkhouses! And at this point in time workdays at the camp will go on as usual. So March 6th. April 10th. and May 1st... make your plans to participate!
It has not been decided yet if there will be a physical camp yet. It is not looking good, because we cannot get our staff members in from overseas. They are unable to get their visas. So trying to hold camp without over 2/3rds of of counselors would be extremely difficult. The camp board will be deciding this week how camp for 2021 will look.
Have money to contribute to TLC? You can mail it straight to the camp or the district.
Camp registration opens February 8th. Even if it is ultimately decided to not have a physical camp, there will be camp!
