Hearing and Speech Action and Work with the Deaf Chairman
Hearing conservation and work with the deaf became a major Lions activity in 1971. In 1977, the title was amended to ‘‘hearing and speech action and work with the deaf’’ to take into account people with all types of communication difficulties, thereby broadening the Lions base of service. Deafness is a handicap of communication, and hearing/speech impairment is statistically more common than blindness.
