Cultural and Community Activities Chairman
The district cultural and community activities chairman is responsible to support and coordinate cultural and community activities at the district, region, zone, and club levels. Activities might include musical concerts and competitions, theater, art, public readings, handcrafts, education, civic and community life, sports, environmental projects, after school computer or citizenship classes, and other events suitable to the local culture and society. The chairman should convey to members that such activities fulfill Lions Clubs International’s Object Number 3: “To take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.”
Chairman Duties
· Become familiar with the chairman guide to cultural and community activities and the related page on the Lions Clubs International Web site. Identify projects that will work in your district.
· Collaborate on projects with other district chairmen, especially environmental, membership, leadership, extension, and public relations.
· Visit clubs, explain the benefits of increased cultural involvement, and solicit feedback and suggestions. Develop an outline for your year’s plan.
· Meet with the governor, vice governor, district cabinet members, zone and region chairmen, district chairmen, and other Lion leaders to fashion and build consensus for a coordinated plan for the year.
· Encourage clubs to appoint their own cultural and community activities chairman.
· Support and publicize ongoing cultural and community activities.
· Encourage and help organize new cultural awareness, educational, environmental, sports-related or music related activities.
· Organize the Cultural Activities Award for your district.
· Keep your governor and the international office informed of your district’s cultural activities. Provide a summary report to your successor.
